We are seeking a Data Science Manager who will be responsible for managing the development of predictive statistical models using both data from Govini’s National Security Knowledge Graph and data provided by our Government customers. These models will include general statistical models, simulation models, and machine learning implementations. You will be responsible for the management of a team of existing data scientists as well as growing this team. You will collaborate with Product, Sales, and Engineering in a cross-functional capacity to deliver high-quality, decision-grade data and analytics to our National Security customers. You will work with our customers directly to better understand their key challenges. You thrive under pressure and are eager to solve new challenges. This role is a full-time position located out of our office in our Pittsburgh, PA office. 

This role may require up to 50% travel.

Scope of Responsibilities
  • Manage the teams of data scientists to execute predictive indicator development and configuration
  • Partner with external client teams to understand their business problems and work with them to create data-driven solutions, to be hosted on the Govini Defense Software Application, Ark.ai
  • Understand our data assets on a detailed level and train others; you are the data subject matter expert
  • Constantly seek out new tools to deliver scope faster with higher quality
  • Become an expert in the National Security domain, and speak from a position of authority to internal and external customers as it pertains to leveraging Govini data and analytics
  • Hire the best talent and continuously train, coach, and mentor your team members to grow and perform at their highest level
  • Apply advanced statistical, AI/ML, and predictive modeling techniques to build, maintain, and improve on indicators and models to help customers proactively manage risks and identify opportunities
  • Constantly innovate and never settle for the status quo
  • Participate in end-to-end software development, on an agile team in a scrum process, collaborating closely with fellow software, machine learning, data, and QA engineers
Qualifications
  • U.S. Citizenship is required

Required Skills:

  • Master's degree in Statistics, Computer Science, or a related technical field
  • Minimum of 5 years of direct, hands-on data science work, including machine learning model development, statistical analysis, indicator development, and related programming languages such as Python and R
  • Minimum 2 years of people management, specifically running data science, software/data engineering, or other technical teams
  • Experience in a customer-facing data science role as an individual contributor or manager
  • SQL mastery
  • Experience with Git source control management
  • Experience developing and deploying business intelligence (BI) tools and insights to both internal and external customers
  • Understanding and appreciation of the product management discipline; ideally, you have worked within a product organization in your past experience
  • Strong communication skills, across all levels of the organization
  • Experience with developing and maintaining Data Science solutions in AWS environments
  • A burning desire to work in a challenging, fast-paced environment and grow professionally

Desired Skills:

  • Current possession of a U.S. security clearance, or the ability to obtain one with our sponsorship
  • Experience in or exposure to the nuances of a startup or other entrepreneurial environment
  • Experience and interest in National Security
  • Experience working on agile/scrum teams
  • Experience with major NLP frameworks
  • Familiarity with big data frameworks (e.g., HDFS, Spark) and AWS
