Job Description

The Lineman Trainee position is responsible for the construction, maintenance, and installation of high voltage transmission, catenary, and signal transmission systems. Linemen install equipment such as poles, foundations, anchors, and electric lines, and perform splicing and relocation tasks to keep track and power lines in service. Essential Functions Attach appurtenances. Relocate lines away from existing lines. Shift poles requiring new foundations. Install anchors and foundations. Shift under traffic and move poles with wires attached. Splice existing appurtenances and install new foundations, power lines, and signal transmission systems. Minimum Qualifications Minimum 18 years of age and a high school graduate or GED equivalent. Minimum of 2 years of heavy physical labor experience. Able to lift 50 lbs or more. Valid driver’s license at hire date. Must be able to obtain a CDL license within 90 days of hire date. Basic math skills including fractions and decimals. Ability to pass required safety and departmental training, including two weeks of safety training and 24‑month progress training to become a qualified lineman. Proficient in reading, writing, and speaking English and using telephone and radio communication. Preferred Qualifications Basic climbing, rigging, and lineman experience. Basic mechanical aptitude and knowledge of hand tools. Electronic/electrical background or education. Previous electric traction railroad experience. CDL license. Communications & Interpersonal Skills Excellent written and oral communication skills. Salary and Benefits The hourly range is $44.23 – $49.14 (with opportunity for increases, as per the applicable collective bargaining agreement, after beginning employment).
