Statement of Job:
The University of Southern Maine's Catherine E. Cutler Institute invites applications for a Research Associate I. The Research Associate I works with a team of USM staff and faculty conducting applied quantitative health policy analyses, data analyses, and research to inform data-informed, evidence-based state policymaking.
The Muskie School of Public Service is Maine's distinguished public policy school, combining an extensive applied research and technical assistance portfolio with rigorous undergraduate and graduate degree and certificate programs in geography-anthropology; tourism and hospitality; policy, planning, and management (MPPM); and public health (MPH). The school is nationally recognized for applying innovative knowledge to critical issues in the fields of sustainable development and health and human service policy and management and is home to the Cutler Institute for Health and Social Policy. The Muskie School and Cutler Institute engage in cross-disciplinary opportunities through the University of Maine Graduate & Professional Center, which brings together programs in business, law, policy, and public health.
The Research Associate I is responsible for directing, coordinating, and conducting health policy and data collection and analyses using large (e.g. healthcare claims) and small healthcare datasets and providing technical assistance to state agencies. Specifically, the Research Associate contributes to and/or leads quantitative health care policy analyses in the areas of healthcare quality performance measurement, value-based purchasing, and/or public health policy and prepares reports of findings for dissemination. For smaller policy projects, the Research Associate I provides independent project direction. The RA I develops project design and work plans for health policy and data analyses, implements major project components, and monitors project activities for compliance with timeframes and deadlines.
This is a full-time, soft-money (grant) funded position with a starting annual salary up to $59,000 and will be located on our Portland Campus. Qualifications:
* Masters degree and 3 years of relevant experience in the health and human services field and emphasis in health policy analysis; or Bachelor's degree and 5 years' experience in a relevant field.
* Strong quantitative data analytic skills including knowledge of and experience using SAS, SPSS, R and/or other statistical software.
* Knowledge of Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and/or other spreadsheet, word-processing, presentation software.
