Job Description The Salt Lake City Prosecutor’s Office is looking for a Victim Advocate to join our team. The role assists victims of violent crimes and domestic violence by providing information, making appropriate referrals, and assisting victims in court processes. The successful candidate will provide crisis intervention services, liaise with law enforcement, prosecutors, and other agencies to assist victims in all crime categories, and provide training and education to community groups and individuals. This position requires a high degree of independent judgment, decision‑making, and an exceptional ability to work with and effectively communicate with diverse populations in difficult situations. The ideal candidate should be currently attending school or have graduated from an accredited college or university with an Associate’s Degree in Social Work, Behavioral Science, or a Criminal Justice Program and have one (1) year related work experience. Equivalent work experience may be substituted for education on a year‑by‑year basis. Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. (Ongoing occasional overtime may be requested; schedules may be adjusted to a four‑day workweek with 10‑hour shifts based on office needs). Position Salary: $24/hr. This position is grant‑funded by the Utah Office For Victims Of Crime at 75% for two years; the City of Salt Lake covers the remaining 25%. Employment is contingent on continued grant funding and performance metrics tied to the grant’s success. Early application submittal is encouraged. This position will remain open until filled and may close at any time without notice. Key Responsibilities Provide crisis interventions for victims of violent crimes. Conduct needs assessments from client intake documentation and interviews, evaluating needs and making appropriate referrals for counseling, housing, shelter, legal assistance, and other services. Assist victims in obtaining protective orders, filing victim reparation forms, victim/witness statements, medical release forms, and other pertinent documentation. Follow up on assigned cases, reviewing incident reports to determine advocacy needs, accessing court and police computer systems for case histories, and attending weekly staff meetings to discuss case issues and develop action plans. Attend appropriate court proceedings to support the victim, arranging accommodations for non‑English speaking participants and those with hearing or other disabilities, monitoring court activity, and informing victim/witness of dates and changes. Coordinate efforts and information with local shelters; manage assigned cases of victims and witnesses, including detailed documentation and database information. Perform other job‑related duties as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Graduation with a bachelor’s degree in Social or Behavioral Science and 1 year of related work experience, OR graduation from a two‑year college with an Associate degree in Social or Behavioral Science and 3 years of related experience. Experience and education may be substituted on a year‑for‑year basis. Effective interpersonal skills for working with individuals in crisis situations. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Working knowledge of victimology, trauma‑informed responses, judicial processes, and resources for victims of crimes. Possession of a valid driver’s license or driving privilege card. All requirements are subject to modification to accommodate individuals with disabilities.
