Virtual Medical Receptionist/Personal Assistant (1099 Contractor)

Position Type: Independent Contractor (1099)
Hours: 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM, Monday to Friday
Position Overview:
We are looking for a highly organized and personable Virtual Medical Receptionist/Personal Assistant to join our team as a 1099 contractor. The ideal candidate will possess at least a medical assistant degree, though a nursing background is highly preferred. This remote role involves administrative and patient-facing responsibilities, with occasional in-person duties at our Chicago office.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Schedule new and follow-up patient appointments.
- Verify patient insurance coverage and benefits.
- Correspond with physician offices and referral sources.
- Obtain pre-authorizations for pain management procedures.
- Schedule patients for various procedures at office-based, surgical, hospital, and ambulatory surgery center locations.
- Send physician orders to consulting practices and imaging centers.
- Use fax machines, computers, and telephones efficiently.
- Maintain a professional and pleasant manner in all communications.
Technical Requirements:
- Proficiency in electronic medical health records (EMHR) systems.
- Experience with NexGen and Athena systems required.
Qualifications:
- Medical Assistant degree required; Nursing degree preferred.
- Previous experience in a medical office or healthcare setting.
- Strong knowledge of medical terminology and insurance verification processes.
- Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Effective use of office equipment including fax machines and computers.
- Strong communication skills with a pleasant and professional manner.
- Ability to work independently and efficiently in a remote environment.
- Reliable internet connection and a quiet workspace for performing remote duties.
- Flexibility to visit the Chicago office for occasional in-person tasks as needed.
