Job Description
The purpose of this position is to move trailers and other equipment around the McAdoo, PA facility and ensure they are correctly positioned for loading and unloading.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Move trailers in and out of the docking areas as directed by dispatch on time with no cargo loss or damage.
- Ensure compliance with all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations relating to the operation of a commercial motor vehicle.
- Perform proper pre-operation inspections as required by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations and company guidelines to ensure vehicle and trailer/tanker are in safe operating condition.
- Comply with hours-of-service regulations.
- Check trailer inventories and inspect cargo to ensure proper loading, securing and weight distribution of said cargo to protect cargo against shifting, damage and /or theft.
- Assist in loading and unloading of cargo if necessary.
- Wash out trailers when needed.
- Instruct outside carriers on facility logistics procedures (i.e. follow traffic patterns, contact assistance, keep roadways/bays free of debris, etc.)
- Complete all paperwork accurately and submit it promptly.
- Watch for and report unsafe conditions in docking areas and parking areas.
- Must be courteous, cooperative, and respectful at all times and contact the Logistics Manager if any conflicts occur.
- Remove snow from trailers and other equipment during inclement weather.
- Check trailer temperatures.
- Fuel yard tractor and reefers.
- Perform the essential functions of an Over-The-Road Driver as needed.
- Expected to adhere to safe work practices, follow GMP and HACCP guidelines, maintain sanitary conditions and ensure that product quality is maintained. Report to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality or personnel safety.
- Maintain a positive work atmosphere by acting and communicating in a manner so that you get along with customers, clients, co-workers, and management.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
REQUIREMENTS: - High School Diploma or GED.
- Commercial Driver's License (CDL) class A.
- Clean Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) for past 3 years.
- Pass post offer drug test and criminal background check.
- Current DOT Health Card and/or able to secure new DOT Health Card.
PREFERRED EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS: - 2+ years of class A over the road (OTR) driving experience and/or yard switching experience.
- Obtain PIT certification and use motorized power jacks and/or hand jacks as needed.
- Always adhere to road safety regulations.
- Ability to work independently, handle multiple tasks and problem solve effectively.
- Availability to work a 12-hour day when needed.
- Availability to work weekends and holidays.
- Must be able to lift, carry and balance up to 50 lbs. with extreme care and caution when working with plants and product.
- Be familiar with all state and federal motor carrier regulations pertaining to the operations of a commercial vehicle.
- Ability to crank landing gear/dolly legs up or down.
- Ability to climb up into and down from tractors, trailers and tankers via stationary steps/ladders and using a 3-point contact method for safety.
